Carlos' Trip to the Dominican Republic

As I begin my second week of service here in Lourdes, I would like to reflect back on my trip to the Dominican Republic from June 6th through the 13th, as part of the missionary outreach of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

Our Archdiocese has a sister parish, La Sagrada Familia, located in a small town called Sabana Yegua in the Dominican Republic. I went there with a group of 7 people, college age and young adults. For the first three days we worked on the construction of a few latrines, paid by our Archbishop´s past Lenten appeal. In the afternoons we also did bible study and some games with around 50 kids from the parish. The other 3 days we helped cleaning a beach nearby the parish and painted some walls that surround the parish complex.

It was a true gift to witness the joy and warmth the people from Sabana Yegua shared with us. I myself lived with a host family and their generosity humbled me and made me grow in awareness of the many blessings God has bestowed upon us. I know some of you made donations to our sister parish. On behalf not only of the team that visited the parish but also on behalf of the people whose gratitude I witnessed when distributing these gifts, I thank you wholeheartedly!

Please know of my prayers for all of you here in Lourdes as I go through all the intentions you asked me to bring with me to place in our Mother Mary’s hands.
