Hello, Mr. Saint Bob!

HELLO, MR. SAINT BOB! By Carlos Londono

Have you ever thought of yourself as holy? Have you ever introduced yourself like: “Hello, my name is Saint Spencer or Saint Chris?” Would you call the person next to you: "Hey Mr. Saint Zach or Saint Nick?”

Paul used to greet people in his letters as follows: “To the holy ones and faithful brothers in Christ in Colossae: grace to you and peace from God our Father” (Colossians 1:2). Instead of Colossae, you can write “Pewaukee” or “Queen of Apostles Parish” and it would still remain faithful to its original purpose.

By baptism we are sons of God, Christians and indeed holy people! We are called not to be holy, because by baptism we are already holy, but to live as such. When the Church canonizes someone, she is not making him or her a saint. She is just officially and in public recognizing that this person was aware of what he or she was, a saint, and lived like one!

We’ve probably heard people saying, when they are asked to correct some bad behavior: “Well, I’m not a saint!”  From now on let us remind ourselves: Yes I am a saint!

What if we started living like Saint Kathy, or Saint Bob, or Saint Tony would live like. What if we started saying good morning in a saintly way or if we saintly cared about the other person when we ask: How are you doing?

Let us cast into the deep! Going deep is going beyond the surface, beyond the regular, beyond the majority, beyond what is used to be done. Let’s try to do that, let’s try to live differently, let’s dare to live like what we are already, like saints. Let’s walk the extra mile.

This is a great thought. I guess we forget that saints were human and not perfect
