Message from Fr. Chuck
Central to our identity as Catholics is the fact that we are disciples of Jesus Christ, following His example of sharing the Good News and serving others. As Archbishop Listecki loves to remind us, the lifestyle of a disciple is stewardship in all its forms.
No serious discussion of discipleship can take place without examining stewardship - how we spend or manage our time, our talents and our financial resources. To live as a disciple requires that we use and share our gifts to do His work. Our parish ministries, made possible by your generous support, unite us as disciples actively engaged in the mission of Jesus.
Through your support of our parish ministries you bring consolation to grieving families and the sacraments to those who are homebound, in nursing homes or in hospitals; help educate our children and youth in the faith, reach out to those in need, share in the joy of worshiping together as a community of faith - and so much more!
In this past year we confronted the painful reality that falling enrollment made our parish school no longer sustainable. Yet we are still committed to and support Catholic education! Families who would have attended the school this fall have received grants to help pay tuition at other Catholic Schools. Neighboring parishes whose schools enroll our children will also receive financial support. In addition, the parish subsidizes the cost of education at Catholic Memorial High School for the 23 students from our parish who attend.
Like other healthy parishes, we are moving toward less reliance on fundraisers, whose success is often dependent on uncontrollable circumstances such as weather and insufficient volunteers. They also demand great amounts of time and energy, especially on the part of those dedicated folks who lead them. For these and other reasons we will not have the festival next year, expecting that our regular financial stewardship will fill the gap.
In the coming weeks we will be asking you to prayerfully consider your pledge of financial support of Queen of Apostles Parish for the coming year. We recognize that some are giving all they can, and we are grateful for every contribution. We are asking those who have the financial ability, to stretch - reaching out in gratitude for gifts freely given by our generous God. When we become engaged as disciples by living as faithful stewards, we begin to realize that we have more than we need. Our responsibility to support Queen of Apostles Parish and its ministries becomes an act of joy, making life itself an act of faith.
I am truly grateful for all the ways you support our parish. Know that your prayers, sharing your talents, your generosity in making a pledge for the next year, and your faithfulness in keeping your commitment, will strengthen our parish today and position us to grow our ministries for tomorrow. Together, we will realize “We are Called” and answer with “A Disciple’s Response.”
We are planning to help families who would like to have us provide a light lunch following a funeral here at Queen of Apostles. We are creating a rotating list of people who would be able to provide one of the following: a casserole, a salad, relish tray, cookies, brownies or cake for dessert.
If you would be able to provide help for these families, please fill out the form and return to the Parish Office. Click here for the form. Thank you!
